Motul

Historical
Motul was founded over 800 years in the XI century, this land was discovered and settle by the Mayan priest means white man "Hombre Blanco" It belonged to parcels, among which mention may be made by Don Francisco de Bracamontes in 1581.

Geography
Located just north of 36k to Merida. It has an average height above sea level, the header is Motul de Carrillo port. It limits the north wit the municipalities of Telchac Town and Dzemul, has an area of 298k.

Climate
The temperature of the warm region is humid with summer rains. The maximun record on this region is 42.5c and the minimum 13c. The anunual average is 25c.

Biodiversity
Flora
There are small portions considered lowland, with secondary vegetation is considered among the most common species.

Fauna
Regarding the fauna, the species there are, rabbits, raccons, squirrels and gophers. As well as various kind of reptiles and birds.

Demographics and Religion
According to the INEG 2010 and the Census date Mutul had a population of 33,978 inhabitants, in a predominantly Catholic.

Economy
The economically active population of the municipality amounted to 11,045 people in which 10,977 are engaged in agriculture, industry, commerce and tourism.

Customs
The festivities in honor of Nuestra Senora del Carmense starts in July and last for about a month, for which they prepare a series of religious activities. For the festivities of the saints they make altars in the main room f the house, were they offer different food to the dead. The most common are corn atole, chicken and hot chocolate. They dance the Jaranas.

Gastronomy
The traditional dishes are prepared with corn, pork, chicken, and venison accompanied with havanero salsa picante (hot). The main dishes are Chaya con Huevo, Pucheros de Gallina, Pipian de Venado, Longaniza, Salputes, Cochinita Pibil, Tamales and more.

For dessert's Yuca con miel, Pumpkin, Camote con Coco, Mazapan de pepita de calabaza, Arepas and more.

Traditional drinks are Balche, Pozole de coco, Horchata, Water of fresh fruits from the region.

Attractions
In the municipal a temple dedicated to San Juan Bautista, built in the VXII century and a church dedicated to Virgen de la Asuncion from the colonial time.
The House were Don Felipe Carrillo Puerto, also four ex haciendas, Teresa, Ukanha, Xinteila and Dzitox.
