Historical Resena (name of the place)
The city was founded in january 6, 1542 by the spain Franco De Montejo Leon and built on top of Maya"Tho". Merida's name was given by a conquistador, he came from Spain merida recalling its source, till today is know by "Merida Ciudad Blanca" (white city).
The city of Merida is the head state of Yucatan. It's surface is 43,380 km2 in witch is a 0.004%km2 national territory. Merida is located in the northeast of the peninsula, about 8 meters from sea level, entirety flat territory.
This region is formed with two climates, hot and humid and rainy hot summers. The temperatures are about 25C to 27C, in witch the highest record is 49C and the lowest being 16C.
The Climate being humid and rainy summers makes possible the coexistence of a various species, developing great fauna and flora. This region is also consider low jungle by its soils being stony. In Merida you can find: Cedar, Ceiba, Henequen in witch help the economy of merida with trees up to 6 meters tall, give diversity kinds of flora.
The fauna is very diverse consisting of: rabbit, deer, gopher, opossum, and skunk, as to reptiles there are a lot of iguanas and snakes of various kinds, as well as 187 species of birds in beautiful colors such as parrots, macaws, cardinals and doves among others.
72% of population are catholic within time more and more people are bowing to other religions like christians, Jehovah witnesses, evangelists, saints and others.
The economy is very diversified based on trade in the industrial sector and tourism witch holds because impressive natural attractions, visited by millions of tourists each year. Meridas municipality is considered the highest point in economic important in the southeast of Mexico.
The clothing in the mestiza is Terno, characterized by a combination of colors, embroidery by hand only. form by three parts, Jubon a square cotton fabric with high neck, Hipil is a rectangular skirt on bottom of the Jubon, combined with a rebozo of Santa Maria.
The gala suit for men are characterized white pants, white sirt long or high neck with pockets around the shirt and the red handkerchief coming out of the right side of its pocket. Complement with a fine palm straw hat.
The Guayabera is a typical shirt with four pockets in each side, it can be short or long.
Music and Dance
The musical gender is characterized in this region of mexicos southeast is la Trova, in witch it surge by the start of the XIX century and reach maximum popularity at the end of XX century. The Trova is distinguish by the voice and smooth guitar sounds, and the diversity of rhythms that represents the interaction cultural of the state, like other caribbean, south americans and europeans.
Jarana is the most danced by generation, is know to be adapt to the local Mayans and most danced is "La Danza de los Listones and "Cabeza de Cochino".
Merida has achieved a popularity of poets, composers and songwriters, in witch they have been recognized national and internationally, also has the best symphony orchestra in Mexico. In Merida you can find the "Museo de la Cancion Yucateca" (yucatecas music museum) in wich presents the Tropa Yucateca.
The Yucatan capital is a city full of tradition and costumes in witch shows the mystery and human warmth. In november they celebrate the "hanal Pixan" a ritual to the dead in witch they believe there soul comes to take the grace from the alter that there are given by there love ones in its honor.
Locally around Merida they celebrate their own festivities or religious saint according to there believe. One of the most excel is the Virgen de la Candelaria on february 2nd, Fatima, the fear for Xmatkul and San Benito in witch are the most spectacular and devoted with music and color that is worth presenting. The carnival is one of the celebration in catholic lent, in were they used costumes, parades and party's on the street.
The Meridan gastronomy has features from Yucatan, is know for the best in the region, Distinguished in Mexico not only for the spicy but for the technique that is used to prepared them.
The typical ingredients in this region are the chiles habaneros (pepers), pumpkin seed, orange, achiote, corn and beans beening this last two the most immemorial of all time. Dishes that highlight in the region are panuchos, papadzules, poc chuc, primes, queso relleno, chayan con huevo, pipian de venado, sopa de lima, puchero de gallina, relleno negro, escabeche and more.
Traditional drinks are Xtabentun, balche, horchata, atole, fruit water and pozole with coconut. Desserts are nance, camote, flan napolitano and ice cream made out of fuits.
